Australians Love Their Rugby

In a “pathetic” move, Channel 9 in Sydney ended coverage of the rugby championship before the championship trophy could be hoisted by the Melbourne Storm.  Instead, the TV network switched to the “news bulletin”.

To give you an idea of how angry those in Australia are:

“Melbourne win and they can’t even show our team holding up the grand final cup, it’s disgusting. It shows a lack of respect for rugby players, fans and the game in general.”

“Seems that Channel 9 have no respect for the sporting state of Australia.”

“You’re a disgrace Channel 9. You show 20 seconds worth of celebrations, we don’t get to see any medal presentations or the Cup!”

Fans are demanding that Channel 9 issue an apology.  In an online poll on heraldsun.com, nearly 1,800 people have voted and 94% think Channel 9 must issue an “I’m Sorry”.

Ok.  I don’t get it.  These angry fans didn’t get to see their beloved Melobourne Storm lift the trophy and all they want is an apology?  Seems to me that if you’re upset with a television station about not showing something, the first demand you might make is that they show what was missed.  Did the cameras automatically power down when they cut from the broadcast?
