Plagiarism and sexual harassment issues, all in the same week. It’s been a rough start of the 2011 year for ESPN.
Last week, anchor Will Selva copied the opening paragraphs from Orange County Register sports writer Kevin Ding’s preview of an upcoming Lakers/Spurs game and used it on-air.
“I made a horrible mistake and I’m deeply sorry. [...]

ESPN in the News for All the Wrong Reasons
When Will Cliff Lee Make “The Decision”
There’s no word yet whether ESPN has worked a deal with prized free agent Cliff Lee on an hour-long proclomation of his next team. But, in a scene that reminds me of a great Charlie Daniels song, Brian Cashman goes to Arkansas, willing to make a deal.
Major League Baseball and the New York Yankees are a [...]
Purdue’s Robbie Hummel Knows Bad Luck
A week ago, Purdue’s top player, Robbie Hummel, was cleared to return to basketball action after tearing his ACL last season. With the announcement, he was quoted as saying:
“I’m jumping better, I’m able to dunk again, and I’m moving pretty good. I can do basically whatever I want, I’ve been cleared to (play five-on-five), but I [...]
Brett Favre — Needs a Mulligan on the Retirement Game
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre isn’t getting any younger. He seems to be aging right before our very eyes. With every passing Sunday, he’s looking OLD.
Today, the story is that the consecutive start streak might end due to a sore elbow. For some reason, I’m wondering if he shouldn’t have something more than a sore [...]
LeBron Plays the Race Card
It’s “The Decision” that won’t die.
LeBron is talking again about “The Decision” and the furor it raised throughout the basketball world. Last night, he did an interview with CNN where briefly tossed out race as a contributing factor to the negative backlash that he has received.
“I think so at times. It’s always a race factor.”
It’s [...]
The New York Jets – They Can’t Win the Super Bowl
The world-wide leader, ESPN has spoken. The Jets have no chance. None of 25 experts have chosen the J-E-T-S to win the Super Bowl.
Potty-mouthed Rex Ryan has made the Jets the team everyone should hate. Personally, I found Hard Knocks on HBO entertaining and, perhaps, the best season of all. I wasn’t offended by anything [...]
For ESPN, This is Headline News?
Here’s the headline:
Sources: Steelers QB wants shorter ban
If this headline weren’t true, one would believe that Ben Roethlisberger is happy with his six-game suspension and doesn’t mind missing nearly half the season. Personally, I don’t think ESPN is breaking anything.
Duh.
I hope you’re sitting down for this, but representatives for Roethlisberger plan to ask NFL commish Roger Goodell [...]
ESPN Live Look-In Failure
Going from Yankees highlights to Mets live action, here’s tossing it back to Citi Field, courtesy of You Tube.
Jennie Finch Announces Retirement — Noooooo!!!
The face of USA Softball is retiring. Here’s hoping Jennie Finch doesn’t fade into obscurity. I’m sure ESPN could use her as an analyst of some sort. Somebody somewhere needs to put her on television. Please?
96 Teams? NCAA – Are You Crazy?
According to an ESPN report, the NCAA is prepared to expand their basketball tournament to 96 teams. Talk about diluted talent. Essentially, this would merge the NCAA’s 65 teams with the NIT’s 32 teams into one tournament. For what it’s worth, that gets us Stony Brook, Troy and Jacksonville.
To me, the only way this makes [...]
