There are two sides to every story. And then, there’s a bar where things tend to get out of control.

Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed is in the news today for being arrested by police on charges of “simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.”

He contends that he was merely helping a teammate, tight end Matt Spaeth, who was taking a pee in the parking lot. Reed and his representatives contend that he was unlawfully detained. According to his agent:

“It involved somebody else on the team, he got out to try to help and basically got attacked by the police. He was with his parents. He got out and tried to help and evidently they didn’t want to hear that. … It was somebody else trying to do something and Jeff ended up getting slammed in the middle.”

See? Innocent. The wheels of justice will have to work through this one.

But, then there’s the bar that these guys were at. In my opinion, the manager of McFadden’s Bar should take some marketing lessons. According to the article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the manager was surpised such a big deal was being made of these Super Bowl champion players getting in trouble at his bar. Heck, this type of thing happens all the time at this establishment.

“I think the incident is being blown out of proportion because he’s a name that people know. There were two people Tased and five people arrested near our building on Sunday, and no one did a story on them.”

So, if you’re looking for a nice, quiet bar to go have a drink and relax, the manager says this is NOT the place to go. But, if you love police activity and the chance to have a bunch of electricity shot through your body, go to McFadden’s!
