And then there’s the wives. Kevin Harvick’s wife, DeLana is insane. Her husband is driving nearly 200 mph and she’s tweeting at every turn.

And then the race ends and there’s this from “Kevin Harvick”.

He drove a bunch of laps at a bunch of speed and now he has to drive four hours slowly? Talk about road rage. I can’t imagine if someone driving 5 mph under the speed limit gets in front of him along the way.

As long as Darrell Waltrip doesn’t tweet that stupid “Boogity, Boogity, Boogity!” thing, I’m good.

But wait.

Today, the Bowyer team was docked 150 points for doing something bad with “build sheets”.  Bowyer’s winning car failed post-race inspection at the NASCAR Research and Development Center.   I’m not much for racin’-speak so I apologize if this is meant for adult audiences, but NASCAR vice president Robin Pemberton had asked them “…if they aren’t getting off on one of their build sheets.”

Whatever that is, it must be bad.

Being able to win a race should be the first prerequisite for getting into the Chase.  As it stands now, the Chase is made up of the following.

2. Jeff Gordon (0 wins)
3. Denny Hamlin (5 wins)
4. Jimmie Johnson (5 wins)
5. Kurt Busch (2 wins)
6. Kyle Busch (2 wins)
7. Jeff Burton (0 wins)
8. Matt Kenseth (0 wins)
9. Tony Stewart (0 wins)
10. Carl Edwards (0 wins)
11. Greg Biffle (0 wins)
12. Clint Bowyer 0 wins)

There are three drivers with wins that are on the outside of the Chase, including Daytona 500/Brickyard 400 winner Jamie McMurray.  Here’s my thought.  Do what you want with the points.  Right now it rewards consistent racing, whether a car ends up in the winner’s circle or not.  How else could Jeff Gordon be second without a single win this season?

But, make the standings revolve around wins first.  Win and you’re in.  If 12 don’t win, then start filling in with the non-winners.  So, the standings would look something like this.

4. Ku. Busch
5. Ky. Busch
6. Ryan Newman (1 win)
7. Jamie McMurray (2 wins)
8. David Reutimann (1 win)
9. Gordon
10. Burton

Not only does this reward the winners, it adds gobs of drama as we near the race-in for the Cup. 

Can you imagine a winless Tony Stewart in the 12th spot and Dale, Jr. going for a win at Richmond, the last race before the Chase?  The only way Junior gets in is with a win.  He and every non-winner in the field has a chance to make it with that race.  And, doing so could prevent a non-winner from making it.  Drama.

“It’s probably not his fault. His wife wears the fire suit in the family and tells him what to do, so it’s probably not his fault.   It is what it is. It’s just ridiculous. I don’t know what I’ve ever done to piss him off, but he is apparently stupid.”

Ouch.  After being spun by Kevin Harvick on the 199th lap of the NASCAR race in Pocono, Joey Logano had questions about Harvick’s manhood.  And, intelligence.

In the end, Logano went from a top-5 finish before the spin to a 13th-place finish.  And, Kevin Harvick didn’t seem to care all that much.

“You can’t talk to him. He’s 20.  I got into him there going into [Turn] 3 and he just races with not giving people any respect and not much room. So, we just wound up getting together. It’s unfortunate, but that’s the way it goes.”

“I think he’s a bad person.”

I think both need a timeout.

When a person makes his living driving a car gets arrested for driving drunk, what should the penalty be?  Richard Petty Motorsports driver AJ Allmendinger was caught while driving drunk after spending the night out.  This, just hours after being named driver of the famed #43 race car.

“I made an error in judgment last night for which I take full responsibility.  I went out to dinner and I had a couple of drinks. I honestly felt fine but I obviously should have erred more on the side of caution, particularly given what I do for a living.”

Well, duh? 

As it turns out, despite the fact that his driver’s license has been suspended for 30 days, a driver’s license is not needed to race cars in NASCAR.  He should be fine.
